Downtown hotel to serve as affordable housing

The old Hotel Fresno has gone from eyesore to showplace. 81 apartments, some with nice views of Downtown Fresno, have now been created. They’re expected to be available for low-income families by the end of February.

Rent in Fresno is out of control. I hate we have to do this so much but the market in squeezing everyday residents. As a general rule, you should only pay (at most) about 30% of your monthly earnings on housing. In a post COVID economy it’s exceptionally difficult to force families to blow half of their budget on rent. We need to do more of this.
